Q 1. How does Romeo express his feeling of love for Juliet ?
Or
How does Romeo describe Juliet's beauty ?
Romeo sneaks, in disguise and risking his life, into The Capulets' mansion to see his beloved, Rosaline. But, there is a chance encounter with Juliet, the most beautiful maid he has ever seen. He is mesmerized by her enchanting beauty. He describes her beauty figuratively and poetically.
Juliet is so fair that it looks as if she casts radience around her. It seems that her brilliance is teaching the burning torch to burn bright like her. She glows in the dark like a diamond in the earlobe of an African woman. She looks like a snowy dove among crows in the dance floor. Here, he compares other girls to crows.
Romeo finds her beauty divine. People would refuse to burry her after her death. Such is her beauty.
Romeo is tempted to touch her soft hand. He believes that his rude hand would be blessed if he touches the divine hand. He says his eyes cheated him making him believe that Rosaline is the most beautiful girl. But, today he can say that his eyes lied to him because Juliet is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen.
The similes used in this soliloquy are very nice and have 'contrast' as the key to enhance the effect.
Q. 2 How does Juliet immortalize Romeo ?
Romeo and Juliet belong to rival families. When Romeo sneaks into Capulets' mansion in disguise to meet his beloved, Rosaline, during a party, he sees Juliet. He finds her so beautiful and charming that he falls in love with her and claims that it is a true love.
The day Romeo sees Juliet, the latter also falls in love with Romeo. They start meeting secretly at night at Juliet's house. Their love deepens as days go by. It so happens that they strongly believe that they would not live if they are separated. But, the cruel fact is that they can't live together.
Juliet knows that Romeo would die the moment he comes to know Juliet is dead. But Juliet wishes that Romeo should live forever. So, she wishes that he be cut into pieces and thrown into the sky and he would become stars that twinkle in the sky forever and make the sky so beautiful. In this way Romeo is immortalized.
