Compound Sentences :
(Combining
two independent clauses by coordinating conjunctions)
1). She walks six miles each day. She is trying to lose weight. She walks six miles each day, for she is trying to lose weight. 2). I was quite tired. I went to bed early. I was quite tired and I went to bed early.
3) I don’t like grapes.
I don’t like mangoes. I don’t like grapes, nor do I like
mangoes.
4). Everyone bought something. I did
not buy anything. Everyone bought something but I did not buy
anything.
5). You can opt science stream. You
can opt commerce stream. You can opt science stream or you can opt commerce stream.
6). He did not study hard. He got very good marks. He did not study hard, yet he
got very good marks.
7). I’ll watch your luggage. You can
go to the bathroom. I’ll watch your luggage, so you
can go to the bathroom.
Examples
of Compound sentences using coordinating conjunctions :
1).
There was a big
bang and the lights went out. 2) I have known him for a long time, yet I have
never understood him. 3) He
was feeling sick, so he went to the doctor. 4) The cinema tickets were sold out, so we
watched a movie on TV.
5). I'll have a week
in Rome, or I'll go to Paris for three days.
6). I really need a
holiday, but I don't have the money, and I don't have the time. 7), He's crazy! He doesn't like car, yet he bought it anyway. 8) It's gone 10pm, and he still hasn't arrived.
9) Our car broke down,
so we took a taxi.
10) Our plane left
Bangkok on schedule, and we arrived in London early.
I cannot criticize
him, for he is my brother.
There are no eggs in
the fridge, nor is there any bread in the cupboard.
I would have passed
the exam, but I didn't study enough.
