The poet seems to have been affected by an unfortunate incident. He is disturbed and is in sad mood. He is sitting under a hemlock tree and is brooding. A crow is sitting on a branch of the tree. Some snowflakes are on its body. It shakes its feathers and the flakes fall upon the poet. He is alerted by the fall of the snowflakes. It refreshes his mood. A smile comes on his face and feels relieved of the tension he had. The negative attitude changes to positive attitude. He regrets of having lost a part of the day in depression. He is happy that the rest of the day would be nice for him.

Analysis 

Theme :

1)  Even a small incident / happening can cause a change in the mood.                                                                                         2)  A silly thing can make a difference and bring about a significant change in one's life. So, we have to care for all that happens to us.

Significance of hemlock tree  :   Hemlock tree is a poisonous tree. Here, it represents the mood of the poet that has been poisoned disturbed and sorrowful by an unfortunate incident.

Significance of crow The poet has selected crow to represent the depressive mood, that is dark.
